THE BEST GAMERS - THE BUZZ
GAMESTOP'S GAME VAULT OPENED
KARNIVORE89 - Years ago Gamestop used to sell old games at actually pretty reasonable prices? Remember when they stopped and took every game given to them by Funcoland and EB Games and stored them in a warehouse? Now they're being held for ransom!
If you want a few select games that Gamestop has in storage, the Retro Game Vault will let you use your Gamestop reward points to get classic titles! Favorites such as Pac-Man and E.T. on Atari can be yours! How many Gamestop rewards points do you need? Roughly 25,000 or more for a single game.
So how do you score points? According to Gamestop's FAQ:
10 points per dollar spent on all new games and consoles
20 points per dollar spent on pre-owned games, accessories and consoles
20 points per dollar on traded-in games or consoles
Up to 500 points for activating online, completing your profile and establishing your Game Library
So by spending roughly $1,500 on games at Gamestop you can get one shitty game of Gamestop's choice online. Seems pretty reasonable. It has been a long time since they sold games in their stores so they probably forgot how much they priced them for.
Consider too that the reason the warehoused all of their old games was because they said that they were taking up space and they felt that consumers would not buy them frequently. Now setting up a website for them and expecting thousands of dollars to go towards one game? That will get rid of them.
